The primary system of identification used is Abramson's Sceatta List numerical system, backed up by Rigold's letter system and the BMC numbers, where possible. It should be noted that not every single Sceatta List variety was available from the above mentioned resource, but this book is not intended to compete with Sceatta List, more as an essential specimen based companion for anyone with a copy of Sceatta List. Although it is still a stand alone work for those who wish to learn about sceattas and study them.
